I'm not sure why so many of the reviews are bad. It's like a conspiracy! Is some other place trying to damage their reputation by leaving so many bad reviews? I feel something is up with that. We were looking for a nice meal late in the evening and nothing was open besides bars for drinking. This place took us in and said we could wait for take out. There was no unfriendliness, rather, we appreciated their letting us in right before closing. Food was nice and hot and had a good spice. Naan was very pleasant. The interior was very beautiful. I found myself looking at all the decorations while waiting for our take away.

Good meal, I don't understand the different Review here. I have been there twice and I was not disappointed each time. Yes it is not the best Indian restaurant in the world but it is far from being the worst. I recommend it

Ordered shrimp Madras with butter naan. Food was hot and very tasty. Also tried samosas which is 2 price small size/ optional. Curry comes with rice complimentary. Once curry is good for 2 people if not super hungry otherwise go for 2 portyuowns if you are interested havy eater Bhabi was nice and her husband is the chef. Good people once u open up. Will definitely recommend and 5 stars for the food, service and good talk. Will come again.

My wife and I had such a pleasant experience here, and such kindness from the owner! The owner was closing the shop 20 minutes after the official close time, but was willing to let us order takeaway and went back to the kitchen. We got spicy chicken curry and naan and it hit the spot! We had spent hours trying to find anything we would want to eat at the restaurants available without any luck. We love everything about Colmar...except for the very limited variety of restaurants available. Other than French, German, Dutch, Japanese, pizza, or pub fare, there's not much--especially after 8pm. And after days of snacking on delicious pastries and biscuits and meats and cheeses and gelato...something on the healthy side would be nice. If you're reading reviews and debating whether to give La Maharaja a chance, I think the question should not be whether it's the best Indian food you've ever eaten, but whether a meal here is better than a meal in other restaurants in Colmar. We personally felt like La Maharaja was a hidden gem: a delicious escape from the very limited food options here. Note: though I'm not Indian, I love Indian food and live in a city with such a large Indian population that we have probably 100 Indian restaurants to choose from within a 15 minute radius.

They have an extensive vegetarian menu, which most items are actually vegan. They food is good, particularly they eggplant. It was perfectly smokey! And the lentil soup, which is always a favorite.

Loved the food! It was well seasoned and flavourful. The naan looked like roti a little bit but it was still tasty. I ordered the chicken vindaloo, daal tarka, chicken curry and everything tasted good. It was perfect. The owner was quite friendly too. Loved the cozy decoration also. We enjoyed our time there.
